SVS 3000 Micro R|Evolution Packs Dual Opposing 9-Inch Drivers and 1,200W RMS Into a Compact Cabinet

Hofmann’s Iron Law describes the tradeoff among enclosure size, low-frequency extension and efficiency. More amplifier power and driver excursion help a compact subwoofer produce deep bass, but do not repeal that tradeoff. When Youngstown, Ohio-based SVS released the original 3000 Micro in 2021, it packed dual 8-inch woofers and 800 watts into an 11-inch cube. With the new $999.99 SVS 3000 Micro R|Evolution, SVS engineers enlarged the cabinet by barely a tenth of an inch while shoehorning in dual opposing 9-inch drivers, 1,200 watts RMS of discrete MOSFET power, a balanced XLR input, and a 295 MHz DSP trickled down from the flagship 17-Ultra R|Evolution series.

Force-Balanced Dual 9-Inch Woofers and 27.3 mm Xmax

Measuring 10.9 × 11.8 × 10.8 inches (278 × 298.8 × 273.6 mm) and weighing 22.5 pounds in Piano Gloss Black or Piano Gloss White, the sealed MDF enclosure mounts two custom 9-inch active drivers on opposite side baffles, providing larger drivers than the original dual 8-inch design. Because the two woofers are wired electrically and acoustically in parallel and fire in opposite directions, their mechanical reaction forces cancel inside the cabinet to reduce cabinet vibration.

Each 9-inch driver uses a single-piece 1100-grade aluminum cone and coupler, an injection-molded extreme-excursion NBR surround, a 4-layer copper voice coil wound on a 3003-H18 aluminum former, a 6063 aluminum shorting ring, and an oversized Y30 ferrite motor that sits nearly back-to-back with its twin inside the cube. Linear excursion reaches 27.3 mm Xmax (32.6 mm Xmech), extending the quasi-anechoic frequency response down to 20 Hz – 230 Hz (±3 dB)—three hertz deeper than the original 3000 Micro.

1,200W STA-1200D2 Amplifier, Balanced XLR, and 295 MHz DSP

As detailed in the SVS 3000 Micro R|Evolution owner’s manual, continuous power increases by 50% to 1,200 watts RMS (4,000+ watts peak) courtesy of the STA-1200D2 Class D amplifier. Four 60-amp, 200-volt discrete MOSFETs operate in a full-bridge configuration fed by a resonant LLC switch-mode power supply holding a regulated 160V rail, dropping electrical THD+N below 0.05% at rated power.

Around back, SVS replaced the old LED dot-bar with an OLED Intelligent Control Interface (complete with a display-flip toggle) and added a balanced XLR input alongside the stereo RCA inputs and outputs. Processing steps up from a 50 MHz chip to a 295 MHz Analog Devices DSP with 56-bit double-precision filtering and >120 dB SNR DACs, unlocking a 6-band parametric EQ (up from 3 bands), room gain compensation, three presets, and SVS Auto Room EQ via the SVS Bluetooth mobile app.
