Moondrop Releases the $149.99 Starfield III Dual-Dynamic IEM Alongside the $249.99 Crinacle Silicon MEMS Tribrid

Few budget in-ear monitors helped spark the modern personal audio boom quite like Moondrop‘s original Starfield. This season, Moondrop is pushing transducer variety forward at two accessible price points: the Starfield III (D.W.T.) at $149.99, which replaces the single-driver layout of its predecessors with a coaxial two-way dual-dynamic array, and the Moondrop × Crinacle Silicon at $249.99, which brings solid-state MEMS treble drivers down to mid-fi pricing.

Moondrop Starfield III: Wood-Dome Woofer, DLC Tweeter & 32-Band USB-C DSP

Where the original Starfield and Starfield II relied on a single 10mm dynamic transducer, the $149.99 Starfield III adopts a two-way crossover uniting a 10mm wood-dome composite diaphragm bass driver (with an equal-volume inner-and-outer dual-magnet circuit) and a dedicated 7.8mm Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) dome dynamic tweeter. Splitting the frequency workload lets the 10mm woofer focus on sub-bass weight while keeping total harmonic distortion under 0.2% (@ 1 kHz, 94 dB).

With a low 7.7-ohm impedance and 119 dB/Vrms sensitivity, the Starfield III ships with a modular silver-crystal copper 0.78mm 2-pin cable that includes swappable 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced plugs plus an active USB Type-C DSP termination supporting Moondrop’s second-generation 32-band visual parametric EQ.

Stepping up to $249.99, the Moondrop × Crinacle Silicon marks one of the most affordable implementations yet of solid-silicon Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) transducers. Each shell houses a five-driver tribrid array combining a single dynamic woofer for bass foundation and two balanced armature drivers for midrange articulation with two solid-state MEMS tweeters handling the upper octave out to 46 kHz.

Because early MEMS drivers required proprietary biasing amplifiers, Moondrop engineered an internal passive transformer circuit inside the shell so the Silicon runs off standard 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone outputs at a friendly 16.5-ohm impedance and 119 dB/Vrms sensitivity.
