SVS Teaches the 3000 Micro R|Evolution to Read the Room

The SVS 3000 Micro R|Evolution can now read the room. And, unlike most people, fix what it finds.

SVS app version 1.3.106, released July 14, extends the company’s free Auto EQ room correction to the 3000 Micro R|Evolution. The larger 3000, 5000, and 17-Ultra R|Evolution models got the feature first; now the smallest member of the family has caught up.

What It Fixes

Auto EQ uses a smartphone microphone—or the optional $45 SVS Auto EQ Mic—to measure how the subwoofer behaves in the room. The guided process can average readings from up to eight listening positions, then calculates correction for the sub’s internal DSP. Peaks are trimmed, room gain is managed, and the response is smoothed where physics permits. A deep null may still demand better placement or a second sub. Walls retain veto power.

SVS says calibration takes only a few minutes and shows before-and-after results in the app. Owners using Audyssey, Dirac, or another receiver-based calibration system should run SVS Auto EQ first, then rerun the receiver’s setup. Move the subwoofer or rearrange the room, and it is time for another pass.

Why It Suits the Micro

The 3000 Micro R|Evolution costs $999.99 and packs two opposing 9-inch drivers plus a 1,200-watt continuous amplifier into an enclosure roughly 11 inches per side. SVS rates it down to 20 Hz. It is serious hardware in a cabinet small enough to be placed by furniture rather than an acoustician—which is exactly where room correction earns its keep.

The update is free. A phone microphone is enough; the dedicated mic is optional. No new processor, no subscription, no ceremony involving graph paper and a flashlight.

Bottom Line

SVS has given its smallest R|Evolution sub the upgrade it was missing. The 3000 Micro still cannot make a room larger, but it now has a better chance of making the room behave.
